In the heart of the Belgium vine-yarding there’s a town called Overijse which is known of their annual grape-feast. ViIne-yarding is fundamental for the Overijse area since a couple of centuries. A report of the city counsil dated 1903 mentions that a great deal of the greenhouses are sold in Brussel and that shipments to other big cities is also possible. Some big wine-growers are exporting to the U.K., Germany and even Russia and the U.S.A. Overijse -and Hoeilaart - became the richest community of Belgium in the 20’s due to the vine-growing. The first grape exhibition is dating from 1894. Vine-growing may decreased in quantity a lot, quality hasn’t dropped. At the exhibition in Hoeilaart only the very best of the grapes are shown. Of course you can find a great glass of red, white or sparkling Belgium wine to go with the very best in food. The vine-growing area is very nice to go out for a walk to the cities of Hoeilaart, Huldenberg, Tombeek or Juzus-Eik.
